Beginner's Courses
If you are new to Archery you will need to undertake a beginner's course. Anyone from the age of 8 is welcome. Juniors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; this also applies if they subsequently join the club.
If you have a disability which you think may affect your training, please contact us to discuss before booking and we will do our best to help.
Apart from basic shooting technique, our coaches will cover a number of topics including bow types, safety and shooting etiquette. Once you have completed the course you will receive a certificate which will prove that you have acquired some basic skills and competence in the sport and are ready to join Whitehill Archers as a full member.
Equipment & Clothing
The Club will loan you all the basic equipment required for the duration of the course.
We strongly advise novice archers not to rush out and buy equipment. We are able to loan equipment to new archers even after they have completed their course as it often takes several weeks or even months for individuals to decide what equipment they prefer. Our coaches and experienced club members will be happy to advise you. We may also be able to help you source second hand equipment.
You will need to wear close fitting tops or coats without anything baggy or which could get caught in the Bow. Comfortable flat shoes or trainers (NOT open toed) and possibly a brimless a hat if you wish. Archery is an outdoor activity and in winter the field can be wet and muddy so clothing which will keep you warm and dry is a must. We will still hold the course outdoors in light rain, but if the weather is more severe, we will postpone to another day or run the course indoors.

A beginners course costs £60. All our beginners course will be run inline with government COVID guidelines.

Join the Club
If you have completed one of our beginner's courses and enjoyed it we would be very happy for you to join our club. We are quite happy to accept new members who can demonstrate that they have completed a course either here or elsewhere, or archers who are members of GNAS and can produce a current membership card.
